Welcome to Regents Chemistry, my name is Charlie Arbuiso and I will be your teacher.

I expect that we will get along swimmingly, and we will share an excellent academic year together.

My job is to teach and make chemistry understandable for you, your job is to work hard, learn a lot, and ask questions.  Never stop thinking, never give up, and always have fun.

This balloon will remind you of our first day of class, and all the chem that I can squeeze into our first 20 minutes together.  The meniscus picture will remind you of the importance of careful measuring and using significant figure rules in all of your calculations.

No matter what you have heard, or what you think that this class might be about, it's always new and different for each student and for me.  I don't let myself get bored, and I will try not to be too boring for you.  Some days, and I will tell you before hand, I will be boring.  On those days you will be especially diligent and focused.

Try not to forget this, Chemistry is a hard class no matter how much fun you think you might be having.  Don't think that fun means easy, or that you will just be smart enough to get by.  You must stay on top of your work.  Read when I say read, do what I ask you to do, and always question what you are shaky about.

On the second day of chemistry class the
teacher asked his students
"Who remembers the chemical formula for water?"

"Oooh, oooh, I remember, I know!"
shouted a girl in the front row.

"Okay, tell us." said the teacher.

"H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O!" shouted the girl.

"What was that?" said the teacher.
Some other students
just chuckled and rolled their eyes.

"The formula is "H" to "O",
that's what you told us yesterday!"
explained the student.
